Chinatown und die globale Erwärmung

The Chinatowns wordwide are very similar, but they offer always an event. The hustle and bustle in the alleys, the unusual smell and aromas and also the exotic meals put us in a vacation feeling. Dried seehorses were lying beside cruzified dried saurians and actually everythings seem to get dried. Even fish, stems and herbs and all this we don’t know is lying around and waits for the pot. In spite of the curious ingredients we like the asian cuisine.

We are suffering from the weather. When we leave a room with air-condition we are faced with sultriness and our own sweat. Everywhere there is air-condition and it seems that they try to reduce the temperatures by leaving the doors of the shops open. Entering a Mall or a taxi soaked with sweat you get a shock of the coldness inside. All the houses are air-conditioned, cheers to global warming! Cars keep the motor running so that the air-conditioning is working. It seems that here energy comes from the electric outlets, too…

Singapur Airport, die Zweite

Right now we are sitting at Singapore airport and while we are waiting we are blogging a little bit about about our stay in Singapore.

We started the day with a visit of the Singapore Flyer – the world’s biggest observation wheel (at least for now, there are currently quite a few other cities building or planning even bigger ones…)

The wheel is 165m high and offers a unique, fantastic view over Singapore port and the city skyline! Unfortunately we hit a hazy day and so Malaysia kept out of sight.DSC00795

Subsequently we treated ourselves with a delicious coffe at Starbucks and planned the rest of the day.

Next was the Mariamman Temple, a Hindu-Temple that features many colourful and interesting figures and hinduistic art.

From there on we explored the city by foot and strolled through the chinatown markets. To our deepest regret we had to decline some fantastic offers for getting a tailer-made suit of the highest quality and the lowest price. We were offered this bargain only about 200 times, a crying shame that we didn’t have time for something like that ;-)

DSC00873After that we visited Thian Hock Keng Tempel, this time chinese buddhism. At the entrance we met a german travel group so that we could listen to some explanations as a bonus. We did – unlike the russian tourists – however not go so far as to make sacrifices in the temple.

Finally at the end of our Singapore visit, we strolled through the shopping malls and ate a little something in a hawker center in Orchard Road.

And that was more or less already the end of our day in Singapore and after a refreshing (short-term) but given the enormous sticky heat rather useless shower in Thilo’s apartment we went on to the airport (A cordial “Thanks” to Thilo).

And now we are waitung for our flight to Sydney… Australia, we are coming!

Flug nach Australien, Part I

We passed the biggest part of the flight. We arrived at our stopover Singapore.

We would like to say that the time spinned away.. indeed it spinned away, however, very slowly. It is a terribly large distance. And we could not sleep very well but we arrived and so we want to go sightseeing in Singapore now!

Abend in Singapur

After arriving Thilos’ apartment (quite great) and taking a shower after the long flight and after suffering of the high temperatures in Singapur, we decided to go on sightseeing. As we heard from diferent persons that the Singapur Night Safari is well worth seeing, we took a taxi and started to explore the night.

The Night Safari is surely worth seeing, you can see many nocturnal animals. The fitting times are according to this so that you can see the animals very well. On the piciture above you can see a flying fox which flies around us.

Other animals are understandably only viewed behind glas…

Fertig mit der Vorbereitung

We are ready to rock ‘n’ roll ;-) Yesterday we planned the missing pieces of our route in Google Earth, booked 2 days of snorkelling/diving in Cairns, searched for a train to the airport and controlled our equipment. Everything is done now and all that is left to do is actually go there and start the adventure Australia!
