As the Barramundi is a widely unknown fish in Germany I now refer to the question which we were asked so many times. So I got some information about it on Wikipedia:
On this photo you can see a Barramundi (sometimes also written Baramundi).
The Barramundi can not only be found in Australia (especially there) but also from the Persian Gulf to the
Philippines, in India and Japan. In Australia the Barramundi certainly is one of the most popular fish if not the best (we can certify its taste).
The Barramundi we caught almost all had sizes of about 50 cm and fell under the catching minimum size of the Northern Territory. According to Wikipedia the size on average is about one meter but can reach up to 2 meters and and a Barramundi can get the weight of 60 kilos!
The scientific name of the Barramundi is Lates calcarifer.
As a conclusion and most certainly to the regret of all the living Barramundis I have to state that it was real fun catching Barramundi in the Northern Territory and that probably the Barramundi is the best tasting fish which I have ever eaten!

Ja, ich weiß noch wo ich in Australien war. Sydney und Co haben es mir angetan. Aber die Unterwasserwelt ist einfach das Geilste überhaupt!
alle schwärmen immer von australien. was ist denn so besonders daran? ich war einmal in der karibik und kann mir kaum vorstellen, dass das so verschieden sein soll?!

Karibik ist sicher auch toll! Aber das Outback und die Wüste ist damit wohl nicht vergleichbar – wenn Du wirklich wissen willst, was das tolle an Australien ist, musst Du wohl mal selber hinfahren

so ein Barramundi von 2 Meter hätte ich gerne einmal an der Angel:-) Australien ist schon ein reizvolles Land aber ob ich es jemals schaffe dort hin zu kommen weiß ich jetzt noch nicht.
